Message from the President
"I am convinced that the twenty-first century is that of understanding." The word has to be the bond of humanity and the only way to resolve conflicts must be dialogue. This is it is in the hands of the generations now the responsibility of the leadership of the countries and must be the inheritance to future generations. But we must make resources available for this idea. Resources intellectual, economic; It should be energy and enthusiasm.
It is not an easy task, I know, but I need not hope. I have reason to do so. The 20th century has been one of the bloodiest in history, but it has also brought us some lessons which we have taken into account. The awareness, commitment and the belief that the word is the bond of humanity, is the value that can prevent a third world war, despite the continuing threats.
Peace is no longer a wish, common sense leads to the belief that it is the only way.
I belong to a generation of Spaniards who hasn't done any war. Spain is a country that for centuries was engaged in civil strife, and to a lesser extent, in international conflicts. This is not a result by chance but I am hopeful about the future. This is my conviction. And it is because my generation played to the impossible worlds and utopias -and in general – this delivered some results. We allied with the music, we wrote slogans on the walls about things that seemed impossible, and we talked about utopias, we put carnations in front of rifles…The response of this generation with its utopian ideals around the world achieved the impossible that did materialized in many cases.
Time has passed; and many of those utopias are now realities. But still much remains to be done. We must continue dreaming and use the resources available to achieve our dreams. And this is the modest grain of sand that the Cesar Egido Serrano Foundation contributes with: To collaborate with the patronage of culture, peace, understanding, and dialogue.
I have spent 30 years of my professional life to the sponsorship and patronage in all Spain. During that time, I have been specializing in securing resources for cultural or social projects. This experience has led me to a conclusion: There are some tasks that require the selfless contribution of those who can contribute to them.
It is time now for me to return to society part of what so generously has given me. To do so, it is my wish to use part of my heritage, to what I consider to be fair ideas. That was the main reason to create the Cesar Egido Serrano Foundation, which essence is to give back to society, culture, the results of my work and my professional enthusiasm. That is why all the activities and projects of the César Egido Serrano Foundation are financed by our own resources and we don´t request grants or support from any type of public or private institutions.
The activities that the Cesar Egido Serrano Foundation are carried out, through their main tool (The Museo de la Palabra) are aimed at the promotion of these ideas.
I would like that, anyone who makes these ideas their own, would also join our House. "A house that would like to become a meeting place to those same ideas, ideas which many seem to some people wild, as a few years ago they seemed realities that nowadays do not surprise anyone."
