Toledo, on 15 January 2019— The César Egido Serrano Foundation has announced the winner of the 5th edition of the international Flash Fiction Competition. A total of 43,185 authors from 172 countries participated in the competition, sending their stories  Spanish, English, Arabic and Hebrew. The winners of previous editions were given an audience with Her Majesty Queen Letizia.

  • A total of 43,185 entries were received from 172 countries.
  • A first prize of 20,000 dollars has been awarded.
  • Three runner-up prizes of 2,000 dollars each have been awarded to stories written in Hebrew, Spanish and Arabic.

Toledo, on 15 January 2019— The César Egido Serrano Foundation has announced the winner of the 5th edition of the international Flash Fiction Competition. A total of 43,185 authors from 172 countries participated in the competition, sending their stories in Spanish, English, Arabic and Hebrew. The winners of previous editions were given an audience with Her Majesty Queen Letizia.

 The first prize, worth US $20,000, has been awarded to Devlin Elliot.

As regards foreign language stories, Tere de las Casas Mariaca, the Mexican author of The Way, written in Spanish; Mohamed Hadash, the Moroccan author of Olive Stick, written in Arabic; and Noam Shalit, the Israeli author of Touch, written in Hebrew, were given US $2,000 each as runners-up.

The judging panel comprised around thirty literature writers, critics, diplomats and teachers.  The César Egido Serrano Foundation is a private, non-profit cultural organisation. Furthermore, the foundation is nondenominational, entirely independent and self-funded. It neither seeks nor receives any subsidy or grant from any public or private institution. Aiding dialogue between different cultures, perspectives, religions and sensibilities by means of word-based activities (spoken, written or in any other form) and fostering understanding among different populations, ideologies, religions and cultures, are just some of its objectives.
